10 winners at International Lab of Mittelmoda - The Fashion Award


Mittelmoda Award, one of the most important international fashion contest, revealed all the winners of the 2018 edition. Discover the most creative collections of the young designers coming from the world's best fashion schools.

The Fashion Award of Mittelmoda is an important occasion to emerge for young students coming from arts and fashion schools from all around the world, a spotlight on creativity and talent that each year discovers the best collections and the most innovative ideas.

23 were the finalists arrived in the Benetton Studios near Treviso, in the heart of the renowned fashion industrial district of Italian North-East, to showcase their capsule collections in a collective fashion show and compete for winning one of the prestigious prizes. Among them, a jury composed by professional of the sector and presieded by Matteo Marzotto, President of Mittelmoda, selected the winners of many awards issued to enhance and support these young talents.

Arrived at its 25th edition the competition is organized by the no-profit realitity International Lab of Mittelmoda and by leading associations of Italian industry like Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, Fondazione Industrie Cotone Lino and Confindustria Moda-Sistema Moda Italia, in collaboration with important sponsors like Lectra, Benetton Group, Dondup and AsahiKasei, which support the students with special awards.

These are the 10 winners of the fashion competition.


ANTONIA SCHREITER, coming from the University of the Arts in Berlin, is a 23-years-old designer who is focused on the importance of craftsmanship to underline the significance of a garment. Her collection is rich of details, like the hand-stitches, and looks to sustainability and tradition in terms of added values to a more innovative design. She won the "Absolute Prize for the Most Creative Collection".

The Finnish designer JUHA VEHMAANPERÄ, student of Aalto University, won the "Absolute Prize for the Most Experimental Collection". His project explores the possibility of using homemade garments to project a ready-to-wear collection, dilating the boundaries between  what is artisanal and industrial, but also between sexual genders, using handmade knitwear mixed to sportswear for creating a hybrid bold aesthetic.

RENEE DE GUZMAN, won the "Lectra Special Award". The Filipino designer studied at Raffle Design Institute of Singapore and became specialized into fabric manipulation, with which she constructs exaggerated volumes in a continuous game of contrasts with more minimal shapes, playing halfway between extreme simplicity and hyper decorations.

LETIZIA BARBERO is one of the most creative and talented students of Afol Moda, a public fashion school in Milan. Rewarded for the smart use of cupro fabrics, she won the "Bemberg Special Award" offered by AsahiKasei, with her black and white collection, alternating big volumes and simple silhouettes, empty spaces and rich ruffles.

The "Dondup Special Award" was given to THANH NGUYEN, a Vietnamese origin designer student of Esmod Oslo, who presented a capsule collection based on denim using different treatments and re-thinking the design process with the purpose to reach zero waste, recycling the residues of fabrication to create decorations and accessories.

SARA PAVANI, from Accademia di Costume e Moda in Rome, was awarded with the "Leather Special Award by Origin - Passion & Beliefs", for her young and sophisticated way to use leather in a capsule collection inspired by the 60s interpreted with a strong design concept and a skillful mix of colors.

FABIO AMORE, a talented student of Accademia Koefia in Rome, won the "Stone Special Award by Origin" with a collection inspired by the Japanese art of Kintsugi, recreated by the young designer inserting recycled denim pieces on a coat through gold stitches or with embroideries made in Capim Dourado, a sustainable material known as vegetable gold, creating connections between different fabrics with great sophistication.

TULIKA RANJAN, coming from the National Institute of Fashion Technology in New Delhi in India, thinks that fashion design can have positive effects on environment and human life if approached with a sustainable conceptuality, having respect for the world and our different cultures, restoring traditional techniques and craftsmanship blending them with innovation. She was awarded with the "Origin Technology Special Award".

ZHEQIANG ZHANG, won the "Textile Special Award by Origin". The designer, who has also great skills as illustrator, after a graduation at Parsons completed his studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, making experiences both in womenswear and traditional menswear. That for this project is completely revisited through original prints and a careful attention for the smallest details.

BENEDETTA TENAN, a student of Istituto Secoli in Milan, was awarded with a "Jury Special Mention" for the best project presentation. Her collection entitled "The Elephant and the Snake" is seen through the enchanted gaze of a child, for who the extraordinary can be find into normality and the well-know reality can be the base to build the dreams.
