For a couple of years now I follow the
stylistic adventures of these two young designers of Sicilian origin. I interviewed them and I had the great pleasure of attending all their
last shows. But this time something has changed. A small, imperceptible transformation that is bringing these two
creatives in the right direction of a ready-to-wear that sometimes borders on the
grandeur of the Haute Couture.

The fall/winter 2019-20 fashion show of BARTOLOTTA & MARTORANA, once
again organized thanks to the support of A Coded World and presented during
Milan Fashion Week, was a real pleasure for the eyes and the mind.

The inspiration of Simone and Salvatore comes
from a million miles away, in terms of space and time. From
unknown worlds lost among the galaxies, from the luminous and fluorescent
flashes created by the supernova explosions, from the vivid colors of the
nebulae that we could only admire from the Hubble telescope. The creative duo gave life to a cosmic girl halfway between an angel
and an alien, an imaginary woman powerful, determined, refined and delicate at
the same time.

Very beautiful are the shaded and abstract prints
in the nuances of precious gems, which make vaguely romantic the cocktail and
evening dresses characterized by their beloved overlaps of flounces and by the
fluid volumes of the bias-cut skirts. As well as the very
spot-on electric blue, in combination with pink for the suits and the
ecological furs with galactic shades, or used alone, for the dresses in tulle
and cady.

Are very pleasant and absolutely wearable the dresses and suits in
white, blue and black with color-block effect inspired by the world of fitness
or the spacesuits with a vaguely retro feel, that our human imagination has
always attributed to sci-fi explorers.

Fresh and modern is the lime color used for the
adherent Seventies-style suits, the cocktail dresses in satin and the
tight-fitting sheath dresses, suddenly opened by asymmetrical cuts that leave a
glimpse of the models’ body.

Is surprisingly interesting the psychedelic
version of their logo with geometric pattern on a black background, which
becomes an all-over print for young outfits and evening dresses, or their maxi
logo printed on the cotton sweatshirts combined to the cropped trousers
underlined by spherical metal details, that the designers use also as for
the showy chocker necklaces and bracelets, the beautiful lunar-shaped bags made
with iridescent or metallized PVC.

The hi-tech-style dress in rigid tulle and the
majestic cloud of frills in black organza have deserved an ovation thanks to
their fluorescent edges reminiscent of elliptical orbits of unreachable
planets, as was also for the overwhelmingly fascinating use of fluorescent
quilted fabrics for the evening dresses, which catch the
eye and don’t let it go anymore.
