On last 3rd July ACCADEMIA COSTUME E MODA started the Roman Fashion Week of ALTAROMA with a day dedicated to sustainability and an interesting exhibition to showcase the best creations made by its students.

The commitment of ACCADEMIA COSTUME E MODA in favor of the environment has become very important for the school and that is demonstrated by the choice of starting the week of events connected to ALTAROMA hosting the talk #stopmicrofibre in collaboration with Marevivo and of communicating the decision of becoming one of the first fashion schools completely #plasticfree.

The event wa also the occasion for the academy to launch the new Master course “Fabrics Innovation Design”, to enhance Italian craftsmanship through a more new technological, experimental and sustainable approach.

But the main part of the day was dedicated to “ACM Factory 2019”, a special exhibition opening party. In a very warm but always enchanting Roman summer night, Accademia Costume e Moda opened the doors of the school to its guests, exhibiting the projects and the outfits created by the students of the courses of fashion & costume, accessories and jewelry design, styling & communication, cinema & filmaking.

Between the classrooms, corridors and stairs, the exhibit showed the beautiful industry projects, made in collaboration with the most important fashion brands and companies, and the personal works of the students of each course.

Visiting the school’s spaces the visual impact was impressive. In the entrance stairs the guests, among which I was very happy to be now not only as affectionate ex-student but in quality of fashion editor,  were welcome by a selection of outfits realized by the students of the “Master Creative Knitwear Design” made in collaboration with the famous Modateca Deanna and the most important companies, like United Colors of Benetton, Ermanno Scervino, Max Mara and The Woolmark Company.

Then the school’s exhibition was divided into two sectors. On one side there were all the costume design projects realized by the students of the triennial undergraduate course “Costume & Fashion” and of the Master Course “The Arts & Craft of the Costume Designer”

Immersed in the bold and theatrical set created for the event, I had the occasion of making a dive into the past and in the suggestive atmosphere of “Madame Butterfly” by Giacomo Puccini, “I Pagliacci” by Ruggero Leoncavallo, “I Masnadieri” di Friedrich Schiller, “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” by Giovanni Pasolini.

As well as for the beautiful costumes realized for the “ACM Costume Talents 2019”, presented on stage in the theatrical piece “La doppia incostanza” by Pierre De Marivaux at Teatro India in Rome.

The other side of the 2nd floor of the school was completely dedicated to the fashion design exhibition. In the first hallway found place the industry project “The Woolmark Company – Woolrich”, with 10 outfits selected among the 3rd-year works of the undergraduate course “Costume & Fashion” and the visual stroytelling made by the final-year students of the “Fashion Editor, Styling & Communication” triennial course.

Then a succession of classrooms and laboratories set up to show the many realities of the fashion courses. Incredibly complicated and fascinating 3D creations made by the students of the second and third year.

Bags and accessories so beautiful and well realized to seem already professional and real objects of desire, including the collection created by Alice Paris, winner of the “Crisden Product Design Award” at the Graduate Fashion Week International 2019.

And then the students’ fashion magazine “Tapù”, the editing and communication projects, hundreds of mood boards, fashion sketches, fabric samples. A lot of suggestions for one of the most awaited events of the Altaroma fashion week.
