Dalila Recchia, just graduated at Accademia della Moda in Naples, focuses her last collection on the beauty of human body, interpreting Haute Couture with an avant-garde and experimental approach and creating a very sophisticated revival of Victorian elegance. Let’s know this new talent of Italian fashion design.

DALILA RECCHIA is one of the most refined and sophisticated just graduated young fashion designer I’ve ever known. To better understand her style it is necessary to deepen her biography. Born in 1996 in Puglia, she attended the Bilingual Scientific High School, where she discovered the passion for biology and philosophy, two disciplines that still influence her vision and inspiration.

To conjugate these interests with her love for fashion taken from her mother, the already renowned bridal wear designer Carmen Clemente, she decided to attend the I.U.A.D. Accademia della Moda in Naples, where she just graduated. Since 2017, her creations started to appear in some important events that supports emerging designers.

Before at the Italian Fashion Talent Awards and even in Kazakhstan at the Aspara Fashion Week, then in two collective fashion shows organized by MAD MOOD during the Milan Fahion Week in 2018 and again in 2019, when I met her for the first time and she presented the interesting capsule collection “Visceral Allure” inspired by blood circulation.

The scientific approach and the interest for human body are parts of her namesake brand. And especially her final project of fashion design and patternmaking for the experimantal thesis at Accademia della Moda. A very impressive collection for the high sartorial quality of the creations and the sophisticated mood that combines innovation and elegance.

“Psicosoma” explores, like the Surrealism did with dreams and human psichology, the relationships between the body and the mind, that influence each other. The shape of the dress can reveal a state of mind and the true identity of the person, including imperfections.

Analysing the various parts of the female body, also under the point of view of health, Dalila transforms the elegant elements of Victorian style into a very avant-garde and experimental collection.

So the orthopedic and skimpy 19th-century corset becomes a kind of second skin realized in vegetable tanned leather, expertly adapted to the natural body shape to innovative drapings and trompe-l’oeil effects through the use of pyrography. Or beautiful and sensual nude tone corsets and high-belt-like mid-corsets that underline the bust line with ribbons and hook fastenings.

Experimenting a lot on textiles, the designer reconstructs the texture of brain ripples through the heat manipulation of georgette, that transforms this light fabric into three-dimensional rigid structures perfect to build the voluminous leg-of-mutton sleeves typical of the late Victorian period.

The complicated textures of visceral inside and muscle fibers are interpreted throught the use of strips of tight socks in four different shades, internwoven to create a soft-touch emperimental knitwear and woven fabrics.

The balance between the avant-garde fabric manipulation and the opulence of the Victorian-style shapes is given by the accurate and calibrated choice of colors. Off-white, nude pink, tan and black play with the different silhouettes, creating alternations of full volumes and small details, rich flounces and bubble effects, used for the asymmetrical wool coats and the transformable jackets, the half upper skirts and the breathtaking evening dresses.

For a so young designer, this collection demonstrates great maturity and a sophisticated spirit of innovation not so easy to reach for just emerging talents. I can only adore it!
Next appointment to 18th September, when this collection will be showcased thanks to MAD MOOD during the Milan Fashion Week. I will be there to report the best news for the most interesting young designers fashion shows.
